What does TripIt actually do?

TripIt is an itinerary organizer. You forward booking confirmations to it, or connect your inbox, and it parses the flights, hotels, car rentals and reservations into one chronological master itinerary you can open at the gate. The free tier covers that organizing plus calendar sync, sharing and a few document uploads per trip. TripIt Pro, listed at $49 a year, adds real-time flight alerts, alternate-flight search, fare monitoring, seat tracking, airport maps and reward-program tracking.

It has been doing this well for well over a decade, and that focus is the point: TripIt starts after you have already made every decision and every booking. Nothing in it plans a trip or reserves anything on your behalf.

Why do people look for a TripIt alternative?

The most common landing spot for people leaving TripIt is Tripsy, which charges $59 a year or $299 once and now runs on Android and the web, and which ships a built in importer for TripIt and TripCase trip histories. The most common reason is that the organizing was never the hard part. Deciding where to stay, sequencing days so you are not crossing a city twice, finding flights that fit a budget, and making the actual reservations is where the hours go. A tool that tidies the output does not touch any of that.

The second reason is what happens when a flight is canceled. TripIt Pro will tell you promptly and show alternate flights, which is genuinely useful, but you still open the airline app and rebook it yourself, then fix the hotel nights and the plans on the other end. TripAgent.ai holds no live flight data, so the replacement flight still comes from the airline. What it does is the next step: once you have the new flight, ask for the affected day again and that day is rewritten and recosted around it, which is a different kind of help. Which one should you pick?

Pick TripIt if you enjoy planning and booking your own trips and simply want them consolidated, with alerts when something moves. At $49 a year for Pro it is inexpensive for what it does, and nothing here suggests otherwise.
